I'm on DC Craigslist a lot and just last week I started checking out Baltimore CL, I'm finally seeing LOCAL things in the listings! If it's okay with the city of Crofton, I'd still like to associate myself with DC if it's okay. Nothing against Baltimore, it's just not home. But we do enjoy your harbor area, Charm City Cakes and Port Discovery.

The last image is my absolute favorite from both days. I can't wait to have it enlarged, box mounted and hanging in the studio!
Mintu and Megha: Thank you for having me be a part of your celebration! I had a wonderful time and I wish you guys the very best! You guys were SO calm and chill through TONS of family formals, unexpected turns and everything else that goes with a large wedding! Thank you!
London Sandy: You're famous!

After leaving the Gurdwara we went back to Meg's Parent's house where we did some portraits, drank Indian tea and Megha left her parent's house with her belongings. Traditionally this would be where the Bride leaves her family to live with her husband, sometimes moving far away. I don't hear this often called the "Crying Ceremony" anymore but that's essentially what it is... and a few tears were shed. Meg? She just smiled :o)

I've shot my share of Indian weddings. Meg and Mintu was to be my first Sikh wedding. The Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) was beautiful inside as was the ceremony and experience. There was much more singing than the Hindu ceremonies I have become accustomed to. One side of the temple was women, the other men with the Guru, Mintu and Meg in the middle. After the ceremony we all went downstairs to eat lunch.

Last Saturday ~Ryeli Studios had the pleasure of shooting Dalal & Myke's wedding in the heart of Dupont Circle. We all had a wonderful time and was one of the most memorable weddings we have ever shot. It was a carbon neutral, John Denver loving, awesome live band, wonderful guest filled, perfect day of a wedding. If you would like to see more images than what is below please follow the link to view all of the images from both the wedding day and the Cherry Blossom Bridal Session we did a couple weeks prior to the wedding.

The wonderful night ended with a huge circle on the dance floor, glasses being held high with EVERYONE, myself included, singing as loud as we could "Take Me Home Country Roads". Thank you everyone who was there for a wonderful time!
On Tuesday, Myke, Dalal, Her Sister and I got in a limo and headed down to the cherry blossoms and many other DC sites. It turned out to be the PERFECT shoot. Dalal and Myke both looked great. We were able to stay away from the crowds just enough to get all the backgrounds we were crossing our fingers for!
I love doing the bridal portraits a few days before the wedding. It takes so much stress off of the actual wedding day, the bride and groom get to enjoy more of their day. Dalal and Myke's reason? They don't want to miss a minute of the cocktail hour! :o)
I'm so excited to share these images with you guys and even more excited to shoot their wedding in two weeks!
during peak cherry blossom spring
We went downtown to the Cherry Blossoms today. We weren't with the kids, which means I was able to take pictures instead! Below are some images including pictures of Laura-not-my-wife and Dave... Laura(-is-my-wife) is wearing a scarf in the falling water portrait. also known around here as the beautiful, wonderful, awesome wife ::ahem:: :o)
Sunday afternoon I ventured out of the house in our treacherous one inch of snow! I had a 45 minute drive from Crofton, MD to Falls Church, VA which takes me right through DC. It was flurrying when I left but not really sticking. I should have realized what I was in store for when I got out of the woods where we live and on the main road which was immediately backed up for 2 miles merging three lanes in to one. This was the first of TWELVE accidents just on the way to my destination!
The worst accident I saw was an SUV that ran up onto a guard rail on the side of the highway. The vehicle had only one wheel on the ground and was sitting on the guard rail at around a 30degree angle. The driver was trying to carefully reach in and pull thing out of the back seat while (i assume) mom and four year old daughter we sitting on the other side of the road, in the snow, covering themselves with only one coat. There's was a cop on the scene, otherwise i would have stopped... i could have at least given them a blanket or something.
I finally reached my destination two hours later, one hour after my scheduled arrival time.
What was worth risking my cars life for? One GIGANTIC kombucha scoby... this sucker is like 14" in diameter! I didn't have a container big enough to brew the scoby in so i had to cut it down to fit my gallon jar. After talking with the guy i was picking up from, I headed back into the weather.
The drive home took just as long and though I only saw two accidents this time, it was much more scary for me. Now night time and snowing harder, visibility was pretty low. My windshield wipers iced up THREE times. The first time it was unsafe for me to pull over on the shoulder to de-ice them, i had to try to hit the wiper on it's upstroke while driving... NOT fun! My average speed (via gps unit) on the way home was 28mph on roads i would normally go ~70mph.
Oh well... I got home just fine and my scoby is very happy in it's new brew! My first batch should be ready monday or tuesday of next week. I need to make it up to the homebrew store this week and get some ez-cap bottles for bottling. Some people just put their kombucha in a regular pitcher, i like mine fizzy and that only happens in a closed bottle where it can build up it's natural CO2.
