Elias saw me coding html from straight text earlier today and was asking me about it. We sat down and he coded his first site from text, he is SO proud of it. He created the image in photoshop some time ago playing with the stamps.
Eli's code:
<html>
<body bgcolor=0000ff>
<h1><center><i>HI<br>2008<br>the Rain eli lafianza</i><br>
<img src="eli.jpg" width=400px></center></h1>
</body>
</html>
We played with Photo Booth for a little while after dinner last night. Elias and Eva made a couple videos. Eli directed (as usual), narrated and picked out the effect he was going for (so excuse the weird pop art)... The MBP webcam really doesn't do well in anything but full sun, so i was manning the flashlight. Elias dances all the time to the music in his head, spinning, twirling, whatever... He has learned to channel his Inner-Napoleon-Dynamite..
We took the kids duckpin bowling yesterday. We found lanes that have a special every Thursday... we were a day early i guess :o) They had a lot of fun, Eva is fighting sickness so she'll have more fun next time we go.
Elias ended up in second place yesterday! Duckpin (and gutter barriers) really levels the playing out.
I spent almost the whole day at 3200ASA 2.8f 1/40sec... I never realized how little light there is in there.
A few days ago we went to a big train display at a local plant/flower store, the kids were really looking forward to going and had a lot of fun watching the trains weave through the mountains, over bridges and past all the cool details of the train village.
Eli got the motherload of legos
Eva giving Laura a huge hug after exclaiming, "A CAN!!! I LOVE IT!!!"
(It was a plastic tube of pony tail holders... but you know, 'can'... she was close)
elias: My golly, you're right!
eva: I'm NOT A GOLLY! I'm three years old!
Spurred by Geekdad and a $300 lego prize, Elias and I have been building a mousetrap car together during Eva's nap time for about two weeks now. This afternoon (nap time) we finally shot the last piece of video we needed for our (soon to be) WINNING video! You can read the rules of the contest here. A mousetrap car is a vehicle that is solely powered by one mousetrap. It's a GREAT lesson in physics, energy, thinking outside of the box... wood working, video editing and on and on. We had a good time making the car and video. It doesn't seem that there are ANY other entries yet, we may win by default, although I think we have a solid entry. The entries are judged on creativity of the car and video. I'll let you know what happens when the winner is announced probably next week.
The car was HEAVY... I didn't realize it until after we had already built ours that everyone else's is much smaller and lighter... That's okay though, we needed it big to shape the styrofoam on top and make it car shaped, something I hadn't seen anyone else do before.
Are you a Dad, a geek and have a kid you can borrow? There's still two days left on this contest... but umm... just don't make an entry better than mine, okay?!
I've been playing with the new S5 in between reading the manual and sleeping. A new body is always overwhelmingly confusing for the first couple days, now that I have read the full manual and have 1500 images on the camera I'm reacting to situations like second nature again... Just where I need to be for my wedding on Saturday.
I'm SO happy with this camera inside and out. I spent a little more than i had to but it was well worth the extra $200. The film sims are right on, the D-range is amazing, the 3200 ISO is USABLE, editing in camera is a breeze even including in camera cropping, the face zoom is going to be a formals God-send... I'm looking forward to Saturday a lot!
I took some comparison images between the S2, D200 & S5 and personally I feel the S5 topped the D200 in all situations but that's just me :o) Tomorrow I'm buying an SB800 and will start testing iTTL and the built in wireless flash... wireless iTTL blows my mind! I can't wait!
Elias: Who's America's President?
Eva: I dunno... He's in outer space!
(the next question was 'what's the biggest animal?'... apparently the answer is 'a kite')
